2022 Buick Encore GX
Buick's Encore line comprises subcompact crossover SUVs that have been in production since 2012. The Encore GX is a recent extension of the line now entering its third year. If you're in the market for a larger subcompact, the all-new 2022 Encore GX might be just what you're looking for.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2022 Buick Encore GX is available in three trim levels: Preferred, Select, and Essence. Each level comes standard with 18-inch machined aluminum wheels with High Gloss Dark Android pockets, paired with all-season blackwall tires. Chrome or gloss inserts are available as an option.
The exterior dimensions are consistent across all trim levels, with the vehicle measuring 171.4 inches in overall length, 71.4 inches in maximum width (minus the side mirrors), and 64.1 inches in overall height. Thus, with the GX, you have about three additional inches in exterior length compared to the regular Encore model.
Engine (Power)
Under the hood of the 2022 Buick Encore GX is an ECOTEC 1.3-liter Turbo I3 engine with direct injection. This is capable of producing 155 horsepower at 5,600 revolutions per minute and 174 pounds-feet of torque at 1,600 revolutions per minute. The engine pairs with a continuously variable transmission in the front-wheel-drive models and a nine-speed automatic transmission in the all-wheel-drive.
Performance
When it comes to on-road performance, the 2022 Encore GX's focus is on the ride rather than the acceleration. Available in either front- or all-wheel drive, the GX is smooth and well-controlled, ensuring a pleasant driving experience from points A to B. There's some variation in the fuel economy depending on your drivetrain option. The front-wheel-drive model gets an EPA-estimated 29 miles per gallon in the city and 32 miles per gallon on the highway. The all-wheel-drive model gets slightly less, at 26 and 29 miles per gallon, respectively.
Interior
With the increased size relative to the regular Encore, the GX also gains interior space. It has 94.3 cubic feet of total passenger volume, with 40.9 inches of legroom in the front row, 36 inches in the rear. Behind the rear seats, you get a sizable 23.5 cubic feet of cargo space, which is expandable to 50.2 with the rear seats folded down. If you have any particularly long items to stow, you can also fold the front passenger seat flat for added cargo space.
Each trim comes equipped with an 8-inch infotainment system integrated into the dash. This is Wi-Fi hotspot capable and compatible with Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto and allows you to pair two phones simultaneously. A six-speaker audio system is standard, upgradeable to a premium Bose seven-speaker setup.
Safety Features
The 2022 Buick Encore GX helps to provide you with a secure driving experience with some safety and driver-assistance features. Standard features at every trim level include front and knee airbags in the front row, seat-mounted side-impact and head-curtain airbags for both rows, a passenger-sensing system, a tire pressure monitoring system with a tire fill alert, forward-collision alert, and an HD rear-vision camera. You also get a teen driver system, an electronic stability control system, and OnStar-connected services.
You can equip your GX with additional safety features as well, such as systems for lane-change alerts, side blind-zone alerts, rear cross-traffic alerts, rear parking assistance, and HD surround vision.
